~~~ SUMMER YOUTH ACTIVITIES IN YACHATS ~~~  

The volunteers and staff of the Yachats Youth Activities Program are planning summer activities for the children and families of the Yachats area.

Summer activities begin this week.

Every weekday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., school-aged children are welcome to come to the basement of the Yachats Commons for open recreation, Activities include arts and crafts, games, field sports, and free play.

One computer is available Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is equipped with educational games. Children with parental permission may also access the Internet.

Beginning Monday, a healthy snack will be served to all children present at open recreation between 2 p,m. and 3 p.m. This snack is provided through the Free Summer Lunch Program, which is fuoded by the Oregon Department of Education the Lincoln County School District, and Epsilon Theta.

In addition to open recreation, a variety of classes and workshops are planned throughout the summer. Most of those classes will be led by volunteers from the Yachats area. To find out more about the class schedule, call 547-4599.

Several activities are also planned for teens. Every' Thursday between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., youth in the sixth through 12th grades are invited to the Yachats Commons for movie nights, beach parties, make your own pizza, and other activities. Call ahead for specifics. Some activities, such as beach night, may meet at an alternate location.

Boys' and Girls' Night for teens are planned on a alternating Tuesdays throughout the summer. Kevin Stahlman will lead activities with the boys, starting with poker today (Tuesday) from 6:30. p.m. to 8 p.m. Wendy Holmes will meet with the girls, beginning June 29. The girls will be doing henna tattoos and eating pizza.

For the whole family, Family Nights are planned for Wednesday and again Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to join together for supper, games and conversation.
